Executive Order by Barrack Obama
President Barack Obama submitted a Executive Action granting work permits to approximately 5.5 million undocumented immigrants in order to avoid deportation.
However, in February 16, 2015 Judge Andrew in Houston holded this executive order as temporary.
Some of these orders are:
Expanded Deferred Action for Young Unlawful Immigrants, Expand Deferred Action for Parents of U.S. Citizens and Green Card Holders, and Expand Provisional Waivers to Spouses and Children of Green Card Holders. Expanding provisional waivers to spouses and children of green card holders would expand a provisional waiver program for the unlawful spouses, and children of permanent residents and U.S citizens. These people could gain a green card if they return to their home country to apply at a U.S. consulate or embassy.
Expanding deferred action for parents of U.S. citizens and green card holders would defer the deportations of unlawful immigrants. These immigrants had to have been here for more than five years, and have children who are either U.S citizens or green card holders. This would apply to about 4.5 million unauthorized immigrants.
The Deferred Action for Young Unlawful Immigrants Program allowed unlawful immigrants That had to be under the age of 16, resided here since June 2007, who were not convicted criminals, and had to be either high school graduates or still attending school to have a two year work permit under the Code of Federal Regulations. About 1.7 million unlawful immigrants were eligible for this program, but only 675,000 have been granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals status. This was about 40% of the total. The change that Obama wants to make is to move the date from June 2007 to January 2010.
